Professional Profile

Brit E. Cortes is the Training Coordinator for LCPSC. Ms. Cortes’ history with public safety and her career began in June of 1990 as a Police Dispatcher for Hinesville Police Department (HPD). In 1991 she earned her Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification through the Georgia Fire Academy and National Academy of EMD.

Liberty County formed a 9-1-1 advisory board and made the decision to start a consolidated communications center and in 1992 Brit transferred from HPD to Liberty County 9-1-1… becoming a certified Communications Officer through the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) and the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials, International (APCO). In 1996 she was promoted to Communications Supervisor. In 2000 Brit became the Terminal Agency Coordinator responsible for training and certifying the department, through the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, on both the Georgia and National Crime Information Center’s systems.

In April of 2005, Brit was appointed to the newly created position of Training Coordinator. Brit earned her Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) license in December of 2006. She is a certified APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator, Fire Service Communications, Certified Training Officer and EMD instructor. In June of 2011, Ms. Cortes achieved the title Registered Public- Safety Leader and is one of about 300 people worldwide named on the APCO Registry of Public Safety Leaders. Later that year Brit received the 2011 Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) of the Year award for the southeast Georgia region.
