Recreation Activities Return to Passive Status Only

On May 23, 2020, the Liberty County Board of Commissioners authorized Phase I of the COVID-19 re-opening plan for recreation which included the opening of certain facilities for non-organized usage. This move was contingent upon the public’s ability to observe CDC and State guidelines for assembly and distancing. Unfortunately, it has become increasing apparent that these protocols are not being followed. Therefore, the Board of Commissioners has had to temporarily suspend the use of facilities and activities authorized under the Phase I initiative. This means that certain facilities will be closed including ball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, batting cages, playgrounds, skate parks, swimming pools, and rental facilities. Walking trails, running tracks, passive green space, boat ramps, and fishing piers will remain open subject to State mandates concerning gatherings of persons and social distancing requirements. The Commission remains committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of all citizens and is in hope that these measures will only be needed for a short period of time. The Board appreciates the patience and diligence of everyone during these trying times and looks forward to resuming normal activities when it is safe to do so.
