Emergency Management Agency

EMA

Welcome to the Liberty County Emergency Management Agency.

Liberty County Emergency Management Agency (LCEMA) is a coordination of the county government with the lead role in preparing for and responding to major emergencies and disasters, both natural and man-made. During the Cold War the agency was called Civil Defense but because of its emphasis on preparedness for nuclear war. The current name now reflects a shift in priorities toward an "all hazards" approach, which emphasizes prevention, response, and recovery.

LCEMA is the local community-based equivalent of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) at the State level and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at the Federal level. We work closely with these agencies (as well as dozens of others, both public and private) before, during and after emergencies and disasters to provide coordinated and comprehensive protection of lives and property. This is accomplished by providing community wide leadership, guidance, support, and coordination in the area of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

On of the most basic fundamental responsibilities of government is to provide for the safety and welfare of its citizens before, during and after major emergencies and disasters. Therefore, an effective countywide Emergency Management Program should always remain as on of the highest priorities of elected and appointed officials at all levels. Individual citizens must also accept personal responsibility within their own capability to be constantly aware of risks and always be prepared to take protective action when necessary for their own safety as well as for their families, friends and property.

MISSION

Our mission is to protect lives and property from the threat of all types of major emergencies and disaster, both natural and man-made. This will be accomplished by providing community wide leadership, guidance, support, and coordination in the areas of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
